Today dawned with a craving to escape the monotony of daily life and dive into something indulgently sweet. With an old recipe for Chocolate Chip Butter Cookies in hand, I embarked on a journey to infuse new life into this classic treat, opting for lighter ingredients that still promise satisfaction.

Thus emerged my latest creation: Cookies with Dark Chocolate, Sultanas & Rolled Oats. But beyond the mere act of baking, there’s something therapeutic about the process itself, wouldn’t you agree? Mixing and shaping ingredients can serve as a form of meditation, a momentary escape from the chaos of the world.

Finding Serenity in Baking: A Timeless Tradition

As I knead the dough by hand, I find myself enveloped in a sense of tranquility and focus. There’s something inherently calming about the rhythmic motion of folding and shaping, each movement a gentle release of tension and worry. In these moments, the act of baking transcends mere culinary creation; it becomes a form of mindfulness, a practice in being fully present in the here and now.

In generations past, Italian homemakers understood the therapeutic power of baking all too well. For them, the art of crafting biscuits wasn’t just about satisfying hunger; it was a cherished tradition passed down through the ages. In times of hardship or uncertainty, these resilient women turned to their kitchen sanctuaries, finding solace in the familiar rituals of mixing, rolling, and baking. With each batch of cookies that emerged from the oven, they found a momentary reprieve from life’s challenges, a small but meaningful gesture of self-care and nourishment for both body and soul. Today, as I follow in their footsteps, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of connection to those who came before me, finding comfort in the timeless practice of baking and the simple joy it brings.

Guilt-Free Bliss: Wholesome Ingredients, Quick Preparation

These cookies boast a delightful crunch, thanks to the addition of rolled oats, which not only add texture but also a dose of wholesome goodness. And the best part? The dough comes together in mere minutes, making it perfect for those spontaneous baking urges.

In my quest for a healthier twist, I swapped out butter for seed oil and dialed back the flour, replacing it with the hearty goodness of oats. The result? A guilt-free indulgence that satisfies both the palate and the soul.

So, as these delectable treats emerge from the oven, I find solace in their warm, comforting embrace, eagerly anticipating the moment when I can finally unwind and savor each bite. After all, in a world filled with chaos, a little sweetness goes a long way towards restoring inner peace.

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

Beat the egg with the sugar until it becomes fluffy and creamy. Then add in the oil, the lemon zest, and a pinch of cinnamon (this is optional).

Mix the flour with the rolled oats and the baking powder, then pour the egg cream over it.

Add the chocolate chips and sultanas and mix everything with your fingers until obtaining a smooth and shiny dough.

Keep the dough to rest in the fridge for 20 minutes.

After this time, bring the dough to a clean work surface.

Roll it out with a rolling pin to obtain a 1.5 cm high sheet.

With the help of a Round Cookie Cutter or even a glass, make about 20 cookies.

Place the cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake in a fan-assisted oven heated to 170 C° for 20 minutes or, if in a static oven, at 180 C° for 25.

Your Dark Chocolate, Sultanas & Oat Cookies will be done when they take on a golden and crispy appearance.
