When you are in Rome, Cesare al Casaletto is a necessary addition to your itinerary. In fact this Trattoria is the quintessence of traditional Roman Cuisine, with some innovative ideas. It has always been located in an area not exactly central, almost niche, in the Monteverde district, deep far from historical centre.
The place is quiet, and even if on the outside it doesn’t seem particularly inviting, once you enter the place it is very nice and welcoming. There’s a small paved garden outside, that is the perfect place for outdoor summer dinners.
Everything is really excellent, from appetizers to desserts, the quality of the products is very high with a classic Roman menu with seasonal variations.
Our no missing selection is:
Antipasti – Fritti misti – that includes a paper cone of beautifully crisp fried squid, fried gnocchi with cacio e pepe, eggplant meatballs topped with tomato and – best of all – the bollito meatballs (delicious fried balls of deeply savory braised meat topped with pesto).
Primi – you’ll have a choice of fresh pastas tossed in your choice of sauce, so you can mix and match to your preferences. Excellent versions of all the classic Roman pastas, including carbonara, cacio e pepe, amatriciana, and gricia.
Main Dish – even if you feel full they offer a good selection of typical roman that include coda alla vaccinara (oxtail), abbacchio a scottadito (lamb chops), and the trippa alla romana (tripe in a delicious tomato and mint sauce).
Dessert – Absolutely to try the homemade Panna Cotta or if you want a large experience, a tasting dishes with 3 finger choices.
